Over the past 50 years, the city landfill has accumulated over three million tons of waste. The Akimat will allocate almost 12 billion tenge to restore the land, Orda.kz reports.
The 35-hectare landfill, which is enclosed by a three-meter fence, has long posed environmental risks. Now, authorities are finally moving forward with cleanup efforts.
The project will be carried out in stages over the next three years.
The total cost of the project is 11.36 billion tenge. In 2024, we held an open competition to select a contractor. The winner was Bekbolatov Construction Company LLP, Atyrau’s Housing and Communal Services Department.
Although the contract was signed last fall, progress has been slow. Of the 50 million tenge allocated for 2024, only 15 million has been spent, with the remainder returned to the budget.
In 2025–2026, the authorities plan to allocate funding in parts.
