Environmental regulators in Kazakhstan's Atyrau region fined various enterprises totaling 42 billion tenge for environmental violations in 2024, reports Orda.kz.
Timur Kulibayev's JSC Caspiy Neft received the most significant penalty
The Department of Ecology of the Atyrau Region conducted 45 inspections throughout the year, resulting in over 200 administrative cases:
Based on the results of the audit, administrative measures were taken to prevent the negative impact of enterprises on the environment. In addition to fines, they were required to eliminate deficiencies and bring their activities into compliance with the law.
The most considerable fines were imposed on:
- JSC Caspiy Neft - 13 billion tenge for operating without waste accumulation limits
- North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC) - 12.196 billion tenge total: 12 billion for exceeding flare gas standards and 196 million for untreated wastewater discharge
- JSC Kokhan - 9.5 billion tenge for collecting hazardous waste without permits
- Zhan i KS LLP - 3 billion tenge for illegal collection of unauthorized waste
- Dala-Ekos LLP - 3 billion tenge for unauthorized handling of hazardous waste
This follows an earlier 382 billion tenge fine imposed on another Kulibayev-linked company, Silk Way Petroleum LLP, for illegal fuel supply operations.
