Reports of an assault on Special Rapid Response Unit (SOBR) officers in Astana were circulating after the Telegram channel Kozachkov offside broke the story yesterday.
The incident occurred on January 21 at the Yessil district police department near EXPO, involving assailants in a 1999 BMW 740i.
Astana police confirmed opening a criminal case but withheld details, citing Criminal Procedure Code Article 201.
Three suspects were later detained.
Judging by the photographs we found on the Internet, some of the detainees could be employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The BMW was found near the Prosecutor General's Office with its license plates inside, while a Nissan Teana connected to the case was discovered at the airport, according to KazTAG.
The motive remains unclear.
