Arrested Russian Activist Reportedly Faced Extortion in Almaty Pre-trial Detention Center
Human rights activists shared information about alleged violations in the Almaty pre-trial detention center, Orda.kz reports.
Earlier, we wrote about 18-year-old Pavel Vladimirov, who had a conflict with Yevgeny Nakaznenko in the Almaty pre-trial detention center.
In a letter from the detention center, Vladimirov calls Nakaznenko a "snitch." The Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights told us they are unaware of the details.
However, Alnur Ilyashev explained what happened to an Orda.kz correspondent.
According to him, Vladimirov made such conclusions after he and his fellow cellmates were placed in separate cells. Ilyashev says the 18-year-old activist did not know all the details.
As the human rights activist explained, other detainees attempted to extort money from Nakaznenko, an entrepreneur. He did not report this to the administration of the pre-trial detention center but turned to acquaintances so that they would transfer the amount demanded.
According to Ilyashev, part of the money was indeed given to "unidentified persons."
We explained to them that they should not send any money in the pre-trial detention center or to anyone else in the future, as Yevgeny has a "political" status and is not obliged to obey "criminal concepts" or any other manipulations. After that, we, through our channels, conveyed to the leadership of the detention center that this is unacceptable. Nakaznenko himself was eventually summoned to the leadership of the pre-trial detention center, but he did not say any names to anyone. After that, both he and his cellmates were assigned to other cells. If he had really 'snitched' on someone, the consequences for them would have been different - in the form of new criminal cases. But he did not do this, so according to those unwritten 'laws/concepts,' Pavel has no grounds to call him a 'snitch' - this is his mistaken opinion. I hope that this will be conveyed to Vladimirov, and the incident itself, which served as a reason for his reaction, will wind down, Ilyashev said.
Yevgeny Nakaznenko was detained at the Almaty airport on September 17, 2024, at the request of Russia. In the Russian Federation, he is accused of "discrediting the army" and "calling for terrorist activity."
Pavel Vladimirov's arrest became known recently. He has been in the Almaty pre-trial detention center since September 4.
The director of the KMBHR, Denis Dzivaga, says he is accused of attempting to join the "Freedom of Russia" legion.
