Armenia is not considering the removal of Russia’s 102nd military base from Gyumri, parliamentary speaker Alen Simonyan told journalists, Orda.kz reports, citing Arminform.
Armenia is not considering the withdrawal of the 102nd Russian base. There have been no such discussions. There is nothing to say, Simonyan said, commenting on a small August protest.
In August, a small protest took place outside the Gyumri base, demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops.
The 102nd Russian base has been stationed in Armenia under a 1995 interstate treaty.
In 2010, Moscow and Yerevan extended the agreement until 2044, expanding the base’s geographical and strategic responsibilities. Its Erebuni Air Base near Yerevan carries out air defense duties within the CIS Joint Air Defense System.
