Armenia has summoned Russian Ambassador Sergei Kopyrkin to formally protest a state TV broadcast that allegedly challenged Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, Orda reports, citing The Caucasian Knot.
The incident occurred after the January 12, 2025, episode of "Vesti Nedeli," where host Dmitry Kiselev discussed the Zangezur corridor dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan and criticized Armenia's EU aspirations.
The diplomatic response comes amid Armenia's growing Western alignment.
Armenia signed a strategic partnership agreement with the United States on January 14, following the government's January 9 approval of an initiative to join the EU.
These developments reflect Armenia's shifting allegiances since 2020, when Russia's non-intervention in the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict led to Yerevan's diminished faith in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Armenia has since been exploring alternatives to its traditional Russian alliance.
