The opposition “Armenia” faction has declared it is ready to provide all 28 of its deputies’ signatures to launch the impeachment process against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Orda.kz reports, citing News Armenia.
In a statement, the faction said:
“There are serious political and legal grounds to express no confidence in [Prime Minister] Nikol Pashinyan through impeachment.”
The faction emphasized that it would submit its signatures if the initiators of the impeachment could secure the additional eight signatures needed and publicly commit to mobilizing the public support required to make the process successful.
On April 28, members of the “We Are Not Sleeping” movement — founded by Veto movement leader Narek Malian, former Armenian ambassador to Poland Edgar Kazaryan, and other opposition figures — sent individual letters to parliament deputies calling for a no-confidence motion against Pashinyan within 20 days.
According to Armenian law, at least 36 parliamentary signatures are needed to initiate the impeachment debate, and at least 54 votes — a simple majority — to pass it.
However, some independent deputies, including Hovik Aghazaryan, Hakob Aslanyan, and Gegham Nazaryan, have already declined to back the initiative, expressing doubts about its feasibility and effectiveness.
The Armenia faction also stressed that any pressure or intimidation toward its deputies would be unacceptable and raises suspicion about the actual goals of the impeachment push.
This style of action raises doubts: is the initiative aimed at removing Nikol Pashinyan or is there a hidden goal of striking a blow at the Armenia faction, the above statement reads.
