Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated in an interview with Public Television that constitutional changes were not discussed in Washington, and Armenia has no commitment to any third party to amend its basic law, Orda.kz reports, citing News Armenia.
According to Mirzoyan, the Washington agreements confirmed that peace now exists between Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the next step being the signing and ratification of a peace treaty.
He emphasized that any infrastructure built on Armenian territory will remain under Armenia’s sovereignty.
Earlier we heard: they believe that our Constitution must be amended. Only after that will they feel institutionally secure and ready to sign a peace agreement, since they claim there is a problem in our Constitution that could be an obstacle,
Mirzoyan said.
He added that Yerevan does not share this view:
We have said publicly a thousand times that we do not see problems in our Constitution. If this is a problem, then we also see a problem in their Constitution. But we believe the treaty resolves all these issues. There were no new agreements on this topic. We did not take on any commitments to change the Constitution before any country.
