Armenia: Deputy Foreign Minister Sees Closer Security Ties with EU, Parliament Advances Membership Initiative

Armenia sees the European Union as an increasingly important partner in security and defense, Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan said during a parliamentary commission meeting on European integration, Orda.kz reports, citing NewsArmenia.
We’re exploring new cooperation formats involving active engagement on security and defense issues. This is a new area on our agenda, and ongoing discussions in the EU about strengthening this field open up promising opportunities for Armenia,Hovhannisyan said.
The parliamentary commission also approved a draft law to launch Armenia’s EU membership process. The proposal will be added to the agenda of an upcoming session of the National Assembly.
