On August 19, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that relations between Armenia and Iran will be raised to the level of a strategic partnership following his meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Yerevan, Orda.kz reports, citing the Armenian Prime Minister's press service.
The two leaders also agreed to build a second bridge on their shared border to handle growing trade.
Pashinyan stressed that the countries are connected by “close friendship tested over time” and noted discussions on peace in the region and unblocking economic infrastructure. He underlined that Armenia, not any third country, will ensure the security of communications across its territory under the Washington agreements.
Pezeshkian welcomed the Armenia–Azerbaijan peace talks and reaffirmed Iran’s support for Armenia’s territorial integrity. Both sides also discussed boosting bilateral trade to $1 billion, with a long-term goal of $3 billion, as well as cooperation on transport and energy, including a new Armenia–Iran power transmission line.
