A court in Aqtobe has sentenced a local resident who fraudulently took out loans in the names of 136 people, stealing a total of 579 million tenge, Orda.kz reports.
The woman convinced victims that she was raising funds for medical aid, as well as the construction of a mosque and a medical center. Under this pretext, she secured bank loans using their personal information and kept the money for herself.

During the trial, the defendant pleaded not guilty, while the prosecutor requested a sentence of six years and eight months in prison and compensation for the victims.
The court ultimately found her guilty of large-scale fraud and imposed the sentence requested by the prosecution. However, because she has a young child, the prison term has been deferred for two years.
The victims’ civil claims were partially upheld.
