A resident of Aqtau and environmental activist Kanat Abdiyev swam 1.3 kilometers underwater to collect trash from the seabed of the Caspian Sea, Orda.kz reports.
A video posted on his Instagram shows the diver slowly moving along the seabed, bringing to the surface items left behind by people — including plastic bottles, food remains, car tires, scrap metal, and other waste.
Abdiyev says he took up diving three years ago, but the habit of collecting litter began after a long underwater training session when he came across large deposits of debris. Since then, he has considered cleaning the Caspian floor his civic duty.
The activist urged residents and visitors of the coast to treat the sea with care, avoid leaving trash after recreation, and remember that the Caspian is a shared home for thousands of living species.
