At a briefing, the akim of Aqmola Region was asked about land in Burabay that had been allocated illegally for decades, Orda.kz reports.
The state is trying to reclaim plots within the national park that were unlawfully granted to a company linked to Bolat Nazarbayev. The regional department for land management has filed a lawsuit.
The defendants listed are Bolat Nazarbayev’s children.
Recently, Akim Marat Akhmetzhanov did not rule out that some people may have received land “through connections.” This time, journalists asked him directly: who exactly was he referring to? But the official declined to name specific individuals.
What does that have to do with it? I said ‘may have.’ Law enforcement agencies need to determine who received the land, under what legal violations, and with what advantages. It could be any citizen. It could be corruption, a bribe, or undue influence. That’s why it needs to be investigated, the regional head replied.
Akhmetzhanov did attempt to clarify the situation.
The issue of land in Burabay became pressing after the prosecutor’s office challenged the illegal transfer of plots from the national park to local authorities. This transfer was made in 2022 without a government resolution, which violated the law.
