Apple Tops Foreign Tech Firms Paying Kazakhstan’s Digital VAT

Foreign internet companies have paid billions of tenge into Kazakhstan’s budget through the so-called “Google Tax,” Orda.kz reports.
The State Revenue Committee said Apple is the largest VAT payer among foreign internet companies registered in Kazakhstan. Since 2022, the tech giant has paid 24 billion tenge.
The “Google Tax” has been in effect in Kazakhstan since 2022. It applies VAT to foreign internet platforms that provide digital services to users in the country.
Talgat Adilov, head of the Ministry of Finance department for digital asset administration, said 131 foreign internet companies are currently registered in Kazakhstan. Another 13 were added in 2026.
Major taxpayers include Google and Valve, the developer of games such as Counter-Strike and Dota 2. The company earns income from subscription services and pays VAT on it in Kazakhstan. The results are good. Over four years, 171 billion tenge has been received. This year, more than 40 billion tenge has already been received. We plan to bring revenues up to 100 billion tenge,Adilov said.
