The West Kazakhstan Regional Court has upheld the conviction of former Oral City Court Chair Ruslan Zhumagulov, who was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison for attempted fraud, Orda.kz reports.
Appeal Hearing
On October 7, the regional court reviewed the appeals filed by Zhumagulov and his co-defendant, lawyer Nurzhigit Fazylgaliyev.
Earlier, on June 3, the Taskal District Court found Zhumagulov guilty of attempted fraud and sentenced him to two years, seven months, and 15 days in prison. The court also banned him from holding public office for life.
Lawyer Fazylgaliyev received an identical prison term. He was found guilty of incitement to commit a crime and offering a significant bribe, and was barred from practicing law for three years.
Verdict Upheld
Both defendants appealed the ruling, but the West Kazakhstan Regional Court’s judicial panel found no grounds to overturn the earlier decision, fully upholding the original verdict.
Zhumagulov was denied amnesty, as it does not apply to individuals convicted of corruption-related crimes.
