An anonymous benefactor has come to the aid of Kazakh National University professor Kakoen Kamzin, Orda.kz reports. The professor shared the news on his Facebook page.
A month ago, the journalist, writer, and professor at Al-Farabi KazNU fell victim to fraudsters and lost his apartment.
The scammers first posed as utility service workers to obtain the pensioner’s personal information. Then, pretending to be KNB officers, they claimed his property was in danger and persuaded him to sell it urgently.
Kamzin sold the apartment through a notary and handed over a large sum to a courier working for the fraudsters.
After the story became public, university alumni and concerned citizens raised more than 9.5 million tenge for the professor, allowing him to close the fundraising campaign he had launched.
However, there was an unexpected twist: the day before, an unknown man visited Kamzin and handed him 23 million tenge in cash.
“This is not just financial help, it is a true manifestation of faith, unity, and kindness,” Kamzin wrote on Facebook.
The professor now plans to buy back his apartment from its current owners and register it in his name again.
Police in Almaty have not said whether the fraudsters have been found.
