Previous reports suggested that Antikor had detained Aibol Kulbayev, the head of the Almaty Region Department of Physical Culture and Sports. However, the department did not confirm this information, stating that Kulbayev is a witness with the right to defense, Orda.kz reports.
Deputy Chair of the Anti-Corruption Service, Darkhan Kurakbayev, addressed the situation on the sidelines of the Senate.
The case is being investigated specifically in relation to the department when he was the head there. It was said that he was detained. We do not confirm this information. He is participating in the investigative actions together with other employees of the institution. We are investigating a corruption case. A decision will be made based on the results of the investigative actions. He is a witness with the right to defense,
said Kurakbayev.
Kulbayev has been in charge of the above department since February.
