A new seaport is set to be built in the Mangystau region in partnership with the Chinese company Zhongyong International, regional governor Nurdaulet Kilybay announced at a government meeting, Orda.kz reports.
The investor has already registered a company in the region and is preparing documents to sign an investment agreement. The project’s estimated value is about $300 million.
The port is expected to become part of a new transport corridor: China–Kazakhstan–Aqtau–Baku–Poti–Europe.
According to authorities, the route should shorten delivery times and reduce logistics costs.
Kazakhstan’s railways often operate at overcapacity, especially in the fall during agricultural exports. In October, due to overloaded ports and slow unloading on the Chinese side, Kazakhstan Temir Joly temporarily banned grain shipments, causing exports to stall.
Orda.kz previously reported that railcars are also bottlenecking.
At today’s meeting, the Prime Minister instructed regional administrations to ensure that future logistics hubs are equipped with basic infrastructure — including land, roads, rail access, and communications.
