Almaty’s Snow to Be Melted at New Plant
Almaty's "snow-melting" plant is unique for Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
City officials have discovered an innovative approach to tackling snow removal on the streets. A specialized facility, capable of processing up to 1,200 cubic meters of snow daily, will now be deployed to combat snowdrifts.
This effort will concentrate on clearing snow in three bustling districts: Auezov, Almaly, and Bostandyk, where heavy traffic complicates snow removal, the Akimat explains.
For the first time in Kazakhstan, an innovative snow-melting technology that uses wastewater heat is being employed. The meltwater is filtered to remove sand and debris before being released into the city’s sewers, the Akimat described the plant’s operation.
After the heavy snowfall on January 8, utility workers had the chance to test the new plant's functionality. Within two days, they cleared 15.2 thousand cubic meters of snow from the city streets.
