Nauryz, the ancient festival marking the arrival of spring and the renewal of nature, is one of the most significant holidays in Kazakhstan and across the Turkic world.
Celebrated on March 21-22, it symbolizes unity, prosperity, and cultural heritage, bringing people together for festivities, traditional performances, and feasts.
Almaty is preparing for grand Nauryz celebrations from March 19 to 22, featuring more than 100 events across the city, Orda.kz reports. Several streets will be temporarily closed for festivities.
Key venues include Kok-Tobe Park, Abay Square, Panfilov Street, Arbat, and Astana Square, where public festivities, sports competitions, fairs, and concerts will occur. Theaters and the circus will host charity performances, while Kazakhstan's and international stars will perform in major concert halls.
The main concert is set for March 21 at 11:00 on Astana Square, featuring Maira Mukhamedkyzy, Zhanar Aizhanova, "Dos-Mukasan," and "KeshYou."
Later that evening, the Almaty Juldyzdary festival will bring together popular artists. On March 22, Megastars of the Turkic World will take the stage at Almaty Arena, including Mustafa Sandal, Roza Zergerli, Alexey Chumakov, Burak Özçivit, and others.
From March 21 to 25, Nauryz Fest on Abay Square will blend cultural heritage with modern technology, featuring traditional and innovative yurts, master classes, and interactive experiences like LED screens, a digital fountain, and a kinetic tunnel.
Other highlights include:
March 22: Five thousand people will gather on Abay Avenue to sing Abay Kunanbayev's famous songs in honor of his 180th anniversary.
March 18: Nauryz Fashion Day on Arbat will showcase traditional attire for National Dress Day.
March 22: A large book fair on Arbat featuring contemporary poets and traditional artists.
