The Immortal Regiment march in Almaty will proceed this year under the banner of the patriotic campaign "Batyrlarga Tagzym" ("Tribute to The Heroes"), Orda.kz reports.

The event is being organized by veterans' associations with support from the city akimat. According to the Almaty Regional Communications Service (RCS), the march is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. Participants will proceed from Central Park to the Park of 28 Panfilov Heroes, where flowers will be laid at the Eternal Flame.

This year’s event has been overshadowed by controversy involving fake communications.

Unknown individuals created deepfakes of public figures, calling on residents to attend the march, and distributed messages via messengers that falsely listed journalists’ phone numbers as organizers. Orda.kz editor-in-chief Gulnar Bazhkenova was among them. All have denied any involvement.

On April 30, Orda.kz reached out to the Almaty Akimat to clarify whether the Immortal Regiment event would take place, but received no response.

Later, the RCS confirmed that the march would go ahead, but under a different name. After the flower-laying ceremony in Panfilov Park, a memorial event will be held featuring veterans, local residents, and representatives of veteran and youth organizations.

Wartime songs will be performed, a moment of silence will be observed, and veterans will share their experiences.

Unity is the foundation of our statehood. We are different, but equal. In peace and harmony, we build the future of our Kazakhstan,
noted the Chair of the Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan, Murat Abdushkurov.

Organizers emphasize that the event is strictly patriotic and urge citizens not to trust disinformation, encouraging them to consult only official sources.

Nothing should mar the anniversary event. I urge you to trust only official information, maintain order and respect the feat of the greatest generation,
said the Chair of the Council of Generals of Kazakhstan, Beksultan Sarsekov.
