In celebration of Nauryz and the 180th anniversary of Abay Kunanbayev, 5,000 people in Almaty gathered for a large-scale choral performance of the Kazakh poet’s most iconic works.
In tribute to the great thinker and educator, the crowd sang “Közimnıñ qarasy,” “Zhelsiz tünde zharyq ai,” and “Ayttym sälem, Qalamqas.”
The event may even be submitted for the record books.
