The European Union has added two Kazakhstan-based companies to its 16th sanctions package related to the Ukraine war, Orda.kz reports.
One was previously sanctioned by both the United States and the United Kingdom.
Kazstanex LLP, an Almaty-registered firm appearing as number 738 on the updated EU sanctions list, was sanctioned by the US in October last year for supplying Western equipment to Russia. The US Treasury specifically accused Kazstanex of shipping machine tools from European countries to Russia.
Shortly after the US action, the UK imposed sanctions on Kazstanex, stating that the company "provided economic resources, goods or technologies that could contribute to the destabilization of Ukraine or threaten its territorial integrity, sovereignty or independence."
The second Almaty-based company included in the EU's latest sanctions package is Metallstan LLP, which is reportedly part of the same corporate group as Kazstanex.
