An idea to construct a hydroelectric power station in the Sayran area was raised during a meeting of the regional investment headquarters, Orda.kz reports.
The session, chaired by Almaty Akim Darkhan Satybaldy, reviewed current and potential investment projects in transport, energy, industry, and innovation. Among the proposals was the construction of a hydroelectric power station on the Sayran River.
A separate initiative was presented to create an innovative urban hydroelectric power station and an artificial intelligence museum in the Sayran region — a future hub that unites energy, technology, and educational projects,
the akimat said in a statement.
The announcement did not specify what form the hydroelectric station would take or who put forward the proposal.
Lake Sayran was refilled in May 2025 after a three-year cleaning effort. Improvements to the embankment have been contentious, with the Akimat filing a lawsuit against the contractor.
