Almaty police have detained 22 suspects in connection with an organized crime ring. One of those arrested alleged pressure and forgery by law enforcement, Orda.kz reports.
Investigators from the Almaty Police Department are investigating the organized crime group. The group's members are suspected of hooliganism, extortion, abuse of power, and even kidnapping.
During the search in the republic, 22 suspects were detained and taken into custody, including citizen A. Weapons, ammunition, bladed weapons, brass knuckles, baseball bats, and other items were confiscated from them,
the police department reports.
Citizen A., mentioned by the police, is Almaz Altayev.
He recorded a statement addressed to the president, alleging abuses by the security forces.
Officers from the Almaty City Police Department, along with officers from the Organized Crime Control Department, framed me, planting a weapon I had no connection to in my trunk. They used various means to pressure me and my elderly mother, claiming that if I said they planted the weapon on me, they would pin the weapon on my body and sentence me to ten years in prison. The Almaty City Police Department, particularly the Organized Crime Control Department, are illegally abusing their power for their own selfish ends, framing people and accusing them of organized crime,
said Altayev.
The video shows wounds on Altayev's chest.
The suspect's mother wrote in a comment on the post that after his public appeal, her son was "thrown into" solitary confinement.
Responding, the police assured that the pre-trial investigation is being conducted within the law.
