Almaty Hosts Second Strategic Dialogue Between Kazakhstan and China and Sixth Central Asia–China Foreign Ministers' Meeting

The second meeting of the strategic dialogue between Kazakhstan and China took place in Kazakhstan’s southern capital, Orda.kz reports.
Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi led the talks.
The two sides discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and humanitarian sectors. Special emphasis was placed on strengthening trade and economic ties, with a focus on boosting Kazakhstan’s non-resource exports to China.
It was noted that by the end of 2024, trade turnover between the two countries reached a record $43.8 billion. Kazakhstan and China have set a goal to double this figure in the coming years.
Currently, the joint investment portfolio comprises 224 projects, valued at $66.4 billion.
Following the meeting, the two foreign ministries signed a Memorandum of Cooperation for 2026–2028. The parties also exchanged notes on the opening of a Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Guangzhou.
At the same time, Almaty is hosting the sixth meeting of the foreign ministers of Central Asia and China. The head of the Kazakh delegation, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu, welcomed the participants.
During the session, participants are discussing ways to strengthen political dialogue, expand trade and economic cooperation, develop transport connectivity, and jointly respond to contemporary challenges and threats.
The agenda also includes topics related to sustainable development and ensuring environmental security in the region.
