The akims of Almaty’s Auezov and Medeu districts have received severe reprimands, while city officials have also vowed to hold the contractors involved accountable, Orda.kz reports.
The disciplinary measures followed incidents where poor oversight and substandard work caused damage across several districts. After heavy rain, the newly laid asphalt on Amanzhol and Yassaui Streets collapsed, swallowing 13 cars.
The section had been built by Spetsstroy Group Ltd. and Spetskommunstroy, and the akim of the Auezov District was severely reprimanded.
The Almaty Akimat also reported the following:
In the Bostandyq district, the deputy akim in charge of housing and public utilities and landscaping was fired for failing to oversee contractors who allowed granite slabs on Al-Farabi Avenue and Zharokov Street to be replaced.
Meanwhile, the akim of Medeu District was reprimanded following the removal of paving stones on Ualikhanov Boulevard. Community activist Sanzhar Bokayev filmed the stones being loaded onto a crane and taken to a private home.
Police have opened a criminal case into the matter.
The city Akimat also ordered a quality review of Pavlodar River Port JSC’s work on the reconstruction of the Bolshaya Almatinka River and the improvement of its embankments. The city’s head of ecology, who commissioned the project, received a reprimand.
