Almaty marked National Dombra Day with a citywide celebration that included a public concert, a speech by Akim Darkhan Satybaldy, and a special light display on the Kok-Tobe television tower, Orda.kz reports.
According to the city administration, thousands of residents and visitors attended the event, which featured performances by well-known artists such as Roza Rymbayeva, Aigul Ulkenbayeva, Ramazan Stamgaziyev, Aigul Kosanova, and Meirambek Bespaev.
Dombra is the soul of the Kazakh people, a reflection of our inner world and heartbeat. Its two strings carry centuries of history and the essence of national identity. Each fret is a symbolic thread connecting the past with the present, and every kui is a timeless spiritual heritage passed down through generations. By celebrating National Dombra Day, we not only honor this great instrument but also awaken a deep sense of belonging to our culture and roots,
Akim Satybaldy said in his address.
The highlight of the evening was a performance of Nurgisa Tlendiyev’s “Alqissa,” followed by a traditional kui-tartys — a musical duel featuring renowned dombra players and their students.

As part of the festivities, the Kok-Tobe tower was lit up with images of the dombra, musical notes, national ornaments, and a celebratory message: “Ұлттық домбыра күні құтты болсын!” (Happy National Dombra Day!).
