Almaty Akim Darkhan Satybaldy met with representatives of Qatar’s Power International Holding (PIH), who expressed interest in investing in the city’s economy, Orda.kz reports.
According to the mayor’s office, PIH is considering potential projects in leisure, entertainment, retail, and digital technologies. Satybaldy described them as “large-scale investment projects.”
“PIH representatives confirmed their interest in specific areas and emphasized Almaty’s appeal as a regional development hub, given the city’s potential and favorable investment climate,” the Akimat said in a statement.
While no agreements have yet been signed, the meeting is notable given PIH’s existing presence in Kazakhstan — in January, the holding acquired Mobile Telecom Service (operators Tele2 and Altel).
