Lawyer Ainara Aidarkhanova confirmed to Orda.kz that journalist and activist Aigerim Tleuzhanova has been transferred from a detention facility to a hospital.
Just a day earlier, the lawyer reported that she had been barred from seeing her client.
I’m at the hospital where Aigerim Tleuzhanova was brought. The guards are not letting me see her, following orders from some deputy director. What is the legal basis the are being guided by?
wrote Aidarkhanova on Facebook.
Tleuzhanova underwent surgery several months ago, after which her health reportedly deteriorated. She experienced severe weakness and weight loss, but according to her lawyer, prison doctors had repeatedly refused to hospitalize her.
Aigerim Tleuzhanova was convicted in July 2023, along with four other defendants, for allegedly seizing Almaty airport during the January 2022 unrest.
