A video circulating on social media appears to show Gauez Nurmukhambetov, head of the North Kazakhstan region, inviting residents to join an "Immortal Regiment" event, Orda.kz reports.
The administration has clarified that it is fake and so is an accompanying message.
The footage was accompanied by a message attributed to the regional akimat’s press service, claiming that a May 9 rally in Petropavlovsk would take place with Nurmukhambetov's participation.
The same message dismissed rumors of a potential ban on the march, calling them “provocations by destructive forces.”
The regional administration has since clarified that the video and the message are fake and were created using artificial intelligence.
A fake message from the press service of the Akim of the North Kazakhstan region is being distributed on the Internet and social networks, with an attached fake video featuring the head of the region, Gauez Nurmukhambetov, generated using artificial intelligence.
Authorities have filed a police report regarding the dissemination of false information and urged the public to verify any claims through official sources.
