Afghanistan Earthquake Death Toll Rises

The death toll from the earthquake in Afghanistan has climbed past 1,100, Orda.kz reports.
According to the Afghan Red Crescent, at least 1,124 people have been confirmed dead, more than 3,200 injured, and over 8,000 homes destroyed. Meanwhile, the Guardian reports over 1,400.
Rescue operations are hampered by mountainous terrain, narrow roads, and poor weather. In some areas, people may still be trapped under the rubble, Reuters has reported.
The powerful quake struck overnight on September 1, registering a magnitude of 6.2. Tremors were felt across Afghanistan’s southern provinces, with the hardest-hit areas including Kunar, Nangarhar, and Laghman, near the border with Pakistan.
