The Amu TV channel, citing its own sources, reported that Taliban representatives used their meetings with a Tajik delegation in Kabul to request that official Dushanbe recognize the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan, Orda.kz reports.
According to the source, the Taliban also asked that Afghanistan’s embassy in Dushanbe be transferred to a Taliban-appointed representative.
Amu reports that the Tajik delegation has not shown any serious reaction to these requests, and Tajikistan’s authorities have likewise not responded publicly to Afghan media reports.
The delegation from Tajikistan — 14 representatives of the country’s security and diplomatic agencies, according to Afghan media — arrived in Kabul on November 15.
During the visit, they reportedly held meetings with the Taliban’s prime minister, defense minister, foreign minister, army chief of staff, minister for border affairs, and intelligence minister.
According to Amu, the Tajik side focused primarily on issues such as prisoner exchanges, border security, combating terrorist groups, expanding economic cooperation, and related matters.
Tajikistan remains the only country bordering Afghanistan that has not transferred the Afghan embassy to Taliban representatives, according to Asia Plus.
The Taliban, however, claim that Afghanistan’s consulate in Khorog is already operating under their representative’s authority.
