According to preliminary information, the detention of activist Aizhan Mameshova is connected to a criminal case opened after reports of abuses at the Zhanuya orphanage in April, Orda.kz reports.
Activist Saltanat Tashimova wrote on Facebook that the arrest may stem from a post published on April 29, 2025. In it, Mameshova and other activists alleged illegal confiscation of property from orphans, denial of benefits for children with disabilities, and police inaction, including in cases of abuse of minors.
On May 27, police opened a criminal case under the article on “dissemination of information harmful to children and government agencies.”
Tashimova also claimed that officers used force during Mameshova’s detention — twisting her arms, forcing her into a car, and taking her away against her will. Investigators have ordered a forensic medical examination to determine whether Mameshova sustained bodily injuries.
