The Kazakh National Pedagogical University, named after Abay, has had its academic buildings and stadium returned to it, Orda.kz reports.
The Almaty Prosecutor's Office discovered that the university's former administration had sold two educational buildings, totaling over 1,500 square meters, to private buyers without proper bidding or valuation procedures.
The university then leased one of these buildings back from the new owners, essentially paying rent for the previously owned property.
The second building was converted into a restaurant called "Old Gates."
Additionally, the university had transferred its sports stadium in Gorky Central Park to third parties under a 10-year agreement, supposedly to promote sports development.
For five years, the football field was used for commercial purposes. 16 thousand students did not have the opportunity to fully engage in physical education and hold sports events, the Prosecutor's Office said.
The stadium was leased to LLP Sport Invest Company, founded by Azamat Khodjanazarov, a relative of Respublica Party Chair and MP Aidarbek Khodjanazarov.
A court has ruled these transactions illegal, returning all properties to university ownership.
