"A War of Mutual Destruction Is a Road to Nowhere" - Toqayev on The Russian-Ukrainian Conflict

President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has once again voiced Kazakhstan’s position on the war in Ukraine.
As I said during the talks with Chancellor Scholz, Russia is militarily unbeatable. This is a fact confirmed by Russia's military potential, the support of the country's population for President Putin's policies, and history itself. Therefore, we believe it is necessary to look for options for a peaceful settlement and support the realistic plans of all states, including China and Brazil. There is no other way. The alternative is a war of mutual destruction. Perhaps some world powers are interested in this, but this is the path to nowhere. The desire for peace through constructive negotiations is not a sign of weakness, but an expression of strategic prudence. We do not want to be indifferent observers in this changing international order; on the contrary, we strive to become the architects of a more balanced, fair, and sustainable global system, the head of state said at the plenary session of the Astana Think Tank Forum.
He stressed that the country will continue to defend the interests of middle powers on international platforms.
Toqayev also stated that Kazakhstan is committed to cooperating closely with our closest neighbors.
The President said the current situation is very different from 10 years ago.
We are absolutely committed to regional policy, close cooperation with all our closest neighbors in Central Asia. The more we cooperate, the better for the interests of Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries. We are currently developing active cooperation. The heads of state of Central Asia regularly hold meetings where they 'synchronize their watches. I think that Central Asia is becoming increasingly visible on the world map, Toqayev said, answering questions from participants in the event.
The President also spoke out about the UN, stating that the Organization has many shortcomings, but there is no alternative.
The voices of regional powers and middle powers must be heard, first and foremost, in the Security Council. The Security Council also needs to be reformed because, unfortunately, it is in a deadlock, from which we need to find a way out. We must support the United Nations, which will celebrate its 80th anniversary next year, Toqayev concluded.
