85-Year-Old Woman in Kazakhstan Takes First Step Toward University Dream
National Testing Center
Eighty-five-year-old Nurikhan apa devoted her entire life to raising children and never had the chance to earn a higher education. This year, she decided to pursue her dream by attempting to take the Unified National Test (UNT) to apply to university, Orda.kz reports, citing the National Testing Center.
Her family supported her and helped her register. On the day of the test, she was accompanied by her children. Before the exam began, Nurikhan apa gave a bata — a traditional blessing — to all the applicants, wishing them success and reminding them that it is never too late to learn and seek knowledge.
A lack of computer skills prevented her from completing the test this time, but she promised to learn and return to take the UNT next year.
The August UNT session began in Kazakhstan on August 10, with 28,000 people registered to take it.
