Yernazar Akbergenov, a student at the Kokil school-college in Almaty, has climbed Mount Elbrus at the age of 13, becoming the youngest alpinist from Kazakhstan to reach the highest peak in Russia, Orda.kz reports.
Yernazar describes the ascent not only as a physical challenge but also as a journey of self-discovery.
Elbrus is not just a mountain. It’s a real test. The weather there is harsh — snow, icy wind. But I pushed through and was more worried about my parents than myself,
the student said.
He emphasized that climbing demands serious preparation and a great sense of responsibility. In the future, the young mountaineer dreams of expeditions to Kilimanjaro and Kazbek, but for now, he plans to rest and recover.
Yernazar was welcomed back by his school administration and friends with pride and admiration. He has become not only a symbol of perseverance but also a voice of caution for those who attempt mountain climbs without proper preparation.
“A mountain doesn’t forgive mistakes. You should only climb with a reliable team.”
Earlier, we reported that another Kazakhstani, Alibek Kaiyrbek, also summited Elbrus. At 5,642 meters, he played the legendary kui “Adai” on the dombra and raised the Kazakh flag at the peak.
