World Boxing Championships in Liverpool: Kazakhstan Wins Seven Gold Medals

The Kazakhstan national team topped the overall standings at the World Boxing Championships in the UK, Orda.kz reports, citing the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan.

The seventh gold medal was delivered by team captain Aibek Oralbay (over 90 kg), who claimed the world champion title after defeating Uzbekistan’s Jakhongir Zokirov in the final.

President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev congratulated the athletes on their success:

The performance of the Kazakh boxers at this world championship can be considered successful overall. But we should continue intensive preparation for the Olympic Games in the USA. I wish our athletes further success!

Following the tournament, Alua Balkibekova (up to 51 kg) and Aida Abikeyeva (up to 65 kg) became two-time world champions. Balkibekova confidently defeated Turkey’s Buse Naz Çakıroğlu in the final, winning all three rounds.

Abikeyeva lost the first two rounds to Uzbekistan’s Navbakhor Khamidova, but in the decisive final round she turned the fight around and secured another gold for Kazakhstan.

Torekhan Sabyrkhan (up to 70 kg) made a strong debut at the championship. In the final against Japan’s Sewon Okazawa, he clinched victory by split decision.

Natalya Bogdanova (up to 70 kg) added another gold medal with a dominant win over Australia’s Lekeisha Pergoliti.

The first two gold medals of the tournament came from Sanzhar Tashkenbay (up to 50 kg) and Makhmud Sabyrkhan (up to 55 kg), who defeated Spain’s Rafael Lozano Serrano in their final bouts.

In total, the Kazakhstan team won ten medals in Liverpool: seven gold, two bronze, and one silver, reaffirming its status as one of the strongest teams in world boxing.
