The editor-in-chief of Uralskaya Nedelya has been charged. The charges concern an interview of passers-by about constructing a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. The media's editorial board previously released the interview on its YouTube channel, which included the opinions of Oral residents about their attitudes toward the construction.
Prosecutors consider that the journalists conducted a public survey, which, per law, can only be conducted by state-accredited organizations.
The administrative violation case hearing will be held on October 4 in Oral. Yeslyamova and the Journalistic Initiative LLP have been charged. The editor-in-chief posted the document on her Facebook page.
The editor-in-chief of Uralskaya Nedelya disagrees with the charges.
Recently, Majilis deputy Yermurat Bapi said that parliamentarians are awaiting answers from law enforcement about the detentions of activists before the referendum on nuclear power plants.
Deputy Prosecutor General Galymzhan Koigeldiyev could not answer a question concerning the detentions.
