Oguljahan Atabayeva, the eldest daughter of former President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, received a new position, Orda reports, citing Turkmen.news.
She has become vice president for medical activities of the Charitable Foundation, named after her father.
The foundation's functions include helping children who need care. The decision on the appointment was made at a meeting of the foundation's board in Arkadag on December 7.
Oguljahan and her husband, Dovlet Atabayev, lived in the UK. He worked as an adviser to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in London.
In 2019, the couple found themselves in the spotlight after a London cyclist filmed Atabayev using his phone while driving and criticized him.
The couple has returned to Turkmenistan. Media reports indicate that Atabayev is formally listed as a consultant to the head of the State Construction Committee; he oversees medical facilities in Arkadag.
Arkadag is a significant project, and the Berdimuhamedow family is actively involved.
Oguljahan Atabayeva's appointment underscores the clan’s continuing influence.
