President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev met with QazaqGaz Chair Sanzhar Zharkeshov to discuss key developments in Kazakhstan’s gas sector, Orda.kz reports, citing Aqorda.

One of the main topics was the long-delayed construction of the gas processing plant at the Kashagan oil field.

Work has begun on building a plant for the transshipment and fractionation of liquefied petroleum gas at the Kashagan field. A $1.35 billion urea plant project is also underway with the involvement of Turkish investor ESTA,
 Aqorda said in a statement.

Construction of the gas plant at Kashagan began several years ago but remains incomplete. In February 2025, QazaqGaz said it expects the facility to be finished by 2026.

Zharkeshov also briefed Toqayev on the development of both domestic and international gas pipeline infrastructure.

Qasym-Jomart Toqayev was informed of the completion of the linear section of the Taldykorgan–Usharal pipeline, which will supply gas to 66 settlements in the Jetisu region. Work has also begun on the second line of the Beineu–Bozoy–Shymkent main gas pipeline,
Aqorda reported.

According to Zharkeshov, Kazakhstan’s gasification level currently stands at 64.2%. Over the past three years, 1.7 million people have gained access to gas.

One of the major achievements, according to Sanzhar Zharkeshov, is the increase in Russian gas transit through Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan. He also reported on ongoing major repairs to the Central Asia–Center pipeline, which will significantly strengthen the country’s role as a key link in the regional energy sector.

Toqayev was also briefed on new contracts for the development of the Aqquduq, Northern-1, and Northern-2 gas fields.
