Of nearly 970 billion tenge in irregularities identified across Kazakhstan, only 298 billion were classified as actual financial violations, Orda.kz reports.
Earlier media reports suggested auditors had uncovered nearly a trillion tenge in violations in regional budgets during the first half of 2025. However, the Supreme Audit Chamber denied this interpretation, clarifying how the figures were calculated.
According to the agency, the total amount of identified irregularities reached 969.2 billion tenge, but only 298.3 billion constituted direct financial violations. The remaining sums fall into different categories.
Another 472 billion is attributed to ineffective planning, and 198.9 billion to inefficient use of funds. These categories are considered separate and do not directly relate to instances of unjustified spending,
the department explained.
As previously reported, the Supreme Audit Chamber — which recently gained expanded authority — now oversees not only budget and off-budget funds, but also national security-related spending.
The chamber also holds the power to petition courts to recover misused state funds.
