Romanian Authorities Detain Former Presidential Frontrunner

The political figure who led Romania's invalidated presidential race has been taken into custody, Orda reports, citing the politician's Facebook page.
Supporters claim Călin Georgescu was intercepted while traveling and escorted to prosecutors for questioning.
He has been preparing for another presidential bid.
Media sources report that investigators conducted searches at locations connected to Georgescu's associates on February 26.
Romania TV links these actions to an investigation concerning potential fascist or racist organizational activities, while Mediafax indicates Georgescu is under investigation.
Despite securing nearly a quarter of the electorate's support in November's presidential contest, Georgescu saw his victory nullified when Romania's highest constitutional authority invalidated the results and established a new electoral timeline, with voting now scheduled for early and mid-May.
Intelligence officials have publishedevidence suggesting Russian interference in the electoral process, including allegations that tens of thousands of automated social media accounts artificially amplified Georgescu's campaign messaging - claims the politician firmly rejects.
