A paramedic who sustained a head injury from a bullet during the January Events continues to struggle. He has been unable to take out a mortgage. Orda has looked into the matter.
On January 5, Ansat Daribayev was driving when unknown people opened fire at the ambulance. A bullet went through the doctor's head. Ansat survived. When the doctor applied for payments to "Kazakhstan Halkyna", he received a rejection without explanation. But after our article, the funds were issued a couple of days later.
Recently, Ansat applied for a Nauryz mortgage at Otbasy Bank but was rejected. They said he didn't have enough points. He believes that there is no point in talking to the bank: Upon refusal, you need to reapply or find another solution.
Points are awarded for each item. For example, married +10 points, having children +50 points. I only scored 20 points, and I was denied a mortgage, says Daribaev
Marriage should entitle one to 10 points. Ansat was given only five, however. The largest number of points is for having children. And Ansat has a third disability group status and cannot have children. The bank, apparently, did not take this into account.
It's not my choice that I can't have children. After the injury, I took medication for seizures and epilepsy for a long time, Ansat shares.
His relatives are rightly upset. The compensation received only covered the operation. Compensation for moral damage was not on the table despite the doctor almost losing his life.
Despite all this, Ansat does not give up. He works as a surgeon in a cranio-maxillofacial hospital and in dentistry. The January Events have taken a toll nonetheless:
I started to lisp and speak with a slight slur. Also, now, when I work out in the gym, I feel that my left hand is weaker than my right, Ansat says.
Rehabilitation facilitated a return to his normal life, but he continues to face daily adversities.
Mass protests began on January 2, 2022, in the Mangystau region, and two days later, major cities experienced similar unrest. President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev declared a state of emergency throughout the republic. Internet access was blocked.
