The younger Kozhabayev brother was on the international wanted list for almost six months, Orda.kz reports.
According to the investigation, Daurenbek Kozhabayev, deputy head of the Anti-Corruption Department for Shymkent, received a substantial bribe from a school director to evade criminal liability.
After the investigation began, he disappeared. In July of this year, he was put on the international wanted list, and a reward was promised for information about him.
On November 30, as a result of operational investigative measures by the Anti-Corruption Agency with the National Security Committee, he was detained and placed in a pre-trial detention facility, The Anti-Corruption Service commented.
The investigation into the case of Daurenbek Kozhabaev is ongoing, and the details are not being disclosed.
In November 2023, his older brother Maksat Kozhabayev, former deputy chair of the Anti-Corruption Agency and prosecutor of Shymkent, was convicted of fraud and sentenced to five and a half years in prison.
