Lawyers Explain What Happened with Dikiy Arman
Lawyers of Arman Dzhumageldiyev (known as Wild Arman) told Orda.kz what happened to him in the Qostanay pre-trial detention center.
According to lawyer Elena Zhigalyonok, the defense counsel was allowed to see the convicted.
Dzhumageldiyev "received a couple of stitches" and his condition is now stable.
The lawyer says her client harmed himself in protest against the ignoring of his rights.
He cut himself in protest against arbitrariness and violation of his rights. As you know, he and other defendants were, roughly speaking, loaded and transported like rightless mannequins to facilities across different regions. This is a gross violation of the right to defense, as the verdict has not yet entered into legal force, stated Zhigalyonok.
According to her, the convicted had no opportunity to communicate with lawyers or relatives before the transfer.
How are we supposed to prepare for the appeal now? We have made inquiries, we want to know specifically who gave such an illegal order. And, of course, we will appeal it further.
Meanwhile, another person convicted in this case — former head of the Fifth Department of the KNB Ruslan Iskakov — has declared a hunger strike in the Kokshetau pre-trial detention center.
This was reported by his lawyer, Evgeny Yavorsky.
Unlike with Dzhumageldiyev, lawyers were not allowed to see Iskakov, so the reasons for the hunger strike are unknown.
We cannot fully clarify the situation yet, but I know for certain that he declared a hunger strike on the 28th. For some reason, many people write and call me, assuming that he disagrees with the verdict. But that's one story. But remember, he was transferred from Almaty, and now he's deprived of lawyers — that's a second story. Maybe there's something with the administration, and that could be a third story. There are many stories, and I cannot say right now which one specifically caused him to declare the hunger strike, Yavorsky said in conversation with an Orda.kz correspondent.
Crime boss Wild Arman, ex-colonel Ruslan Iskakov, and former maslikhat deputy Kairat Kudaibergenov received lengthy sentences in the case of riots during Qantar.
The verdict was delivered on January 27, 2025. More than 40 people were also involved in the case.
They were found guilty of unlawful confinement, organizing and participating in mass riots, theft, and illegal possession of weapons.
