A 32-year-old operative from the National Security Committee (KNB) was detained in Atyrau while allegedly attempting to make a drug “stash,” Orda.kz reports.
According to sources, officers from the Drug Enforcement Department carried out the arrest near the Jaiq (Ural) River embankment, where investigators say the man planned to hide the package.
During a personal search, they seized a bag containing a white powder with a strong odor. The preliminary weight was about one kilogram. Samples from the suspect’s hands, nails, and clothing were taken for forensic analysis.
Initially, the case was opened under Article 296, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (“Illegal handling of drugs”), but it was later reclassified under Part 4 — possession on a large scale.
That same day, police searched the suspect’s Hyundai Sonata and found two more packages of white and yellow powder, each weighing at least 100 grams.
Yes, he is indeed detained and a preventive measure will be chosen for him. A search has already been conducted in his house. The leadership of the National Security Committee has been notified of the incident. A simple rank-and-file operative, he has only been working for three years, a law enforcement source confirmed.
Meanwhile, our correspondent waited two days for an official comment from the Atyrau Regional Prosecutor’s Office and the Police Department.
