Amendments to Kazakhstan’s military service law have clarified the rights and responsibilities of reservists during both peacetime and wartime, Orda.kz reports.
A new category of service members — military reservists — has been introduced. These individuals remain in the reserve forces but are not permanently enlisted in the army. They will be called up for combat training camps or in the event of a crisis situation.
Under mobilization or martial law, reservists will be automatically transferred to contract service.
Age limits have also been established:
- Privates and sergeants – up to 50 years
- Officers – up to 60 years
The amendments also include employment protections for reservists. Under new provisions in the Labor Code, their jobs will be secured during training and exercises.
Additionally, the reforms reassign functions among certain central government agencies, though specific details have not yet been disclosed.
