For the first time, a Kazakh yurt has appeared at the legendary Burning Man festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, Orda.kz reports.

The news was shared on social media by entrepreneur Sabina Omar, who, together with a group of like-minded participants, transported and assembled a traditional nomadic dwelling decorated with national elements.

On Instagram, she posted the construction process and noted that the yurt proved to be the most reliable shelter during a severe sandstorm that swept across the festival.

At Burning Man, we were hit by the strongest sandstorm in decades. The wind blew away tents and entire camps, people saved themselves as best they could. The yurt proved that it can be more reliable than any modern construction, even in the middle of an apocalypse. For us, it is not just a shelter, but a symbol — a home, traditions and the strength of our people, wrote Sabina Omar.

Burning Man is an eight-day art festival and international community held annually in late August in Nevada. Participants build a temporary city, create installations and sculptures, and follow principles of radical self-reliance, gift-giving, and non-consumerism.

The event concludes with the burning of a giant wooden effigy.
